What percent of people on plaquenil have eye problems

Suddenly I'm experiencing eye problems (blilnd spots). I have stopped taking plaquenil, but now I'm being told by doctors that the damage is not necessarily reversible especially if you have taken it for a long time.

The incidence of Plaquenil related macular problems increases when approaching a dose of 600 to 700 mg. per day. The average dose is 400 mg. per day. This is a very safe dose. The usual starting dose of Plaquenil is 200 mg twice a day or 400 mg once a day, administered orally, in people weighing 80 kg or more. The usual dosage works for most people who take Plaquenil, but it is possible to increase or decrease the dose based on individual needs. It's important to watch for possible side effects and toxicity. It is estimated that at least 1.5 million people in the United States have lupus. While the cause of this mysterious disease is still mostly unknown, much has been discovered about this often debilitating disease.

My mother was diagnosed with Plaquenil Toxicity in 2007 she first noticed changes in 2006, although being followed by her eye doctor they failed to notice this as Plaquenil TX until it was to late. I'm hoping to find people who have recovered from the eye damage.

See what others have said about Plaquenil, including the effectiveness, ease of use and side effects. I was just talking to my rheumatologist today. She has prescribed plaquenil. She said very rare side effect is some sort of deposits on the eye. I would contact your dr to be on safe side. My dr said to have eye exam with dilation a few months after starting. Just tell eye dr you take plaquenil and she said they would know exactly what to look for.
